I became a gynecological patient of Dr. Laura Cordes when I first moved to Hampton Roads. However, when I became pregnant later that year, she refused to see me as an OB patient, claiming my pregnancy was too "high risk," insisting I seek care solely with EVMS MFM (a practice which has repeatedly proven to lack basic competence, cleanliness, and professionalism after my 5 months of experience with them). My only risk factors are age (36?), gestational diabetes (a common condition impacting 10-15% of pregnant women), and my weight (220 at 5'7"--hardly non-normative). While I am already working with an MFM in Richmond, she refused to partner with him to provide care (this is a common protocol). If indeed my case is outside of her training/protocol, I recommend all women who may develop any minimally complicating factors to seek care elsewhere, as the range of expertise in this practice is quite obviously limited. It also does not help that the office staff very frequently do not answer their phones for hours at a time!
Dr. Cordes has been my OBGYN for nearly 10 years now. She has always had wonderful bedside manner, explaining things to me throughout ever one of my procedures without belittling me or making herself sound superior. The staff in her office are wonderful, attentive, and always pleasant. They go out of their way to help you understand paperwork and retrieve test results.
Excellent physician. Very busy office but very efficient.
