Horrible experience, I filled the car up the night before, Dropped keys in drop box at 5am at the airport location. Two days later I'm billed for 110.00 for fuel on although I took a picture of mileage and has gas hand on full. Still no answers to my question or refund as of yet. No one from the location can answer or return calls. I definitely will not be supporting this company.
Made an online reservation. Was even able to pay for it (using debit card instead of credit card). And when it was time to pick up the RESERVED AND PAID FOR CAR... there were no cars available for pick up! The counter person said that it is normal for AVIS to allow a costumer to rent a car (the system will not warn the costumer that cars might not be available) and even pay for it. Even acknowledge it is a very common issue experienced at airports.And the solutions offered... to call a 1-800 number to get the Manet back, because they couldn't even process the refund of payment. And that they didn't recommend waiting for a car, because there was no guarantee they would get more cars in the lot today, and they were NINE other costumes ahead of us on the waiting list. Hopefully, getting our money back will be easier, but giving the experienced situation, I highly doubt it! Such poor logistics and costumer service!
I rent vehicles from other companies all the time I have never had additional charges added at the counter without asking for them or at least being asked if I wanted to add them.
The Avis and Budget at Newport News/Williamsburg airport has terrible customer service. I have waited in a line for over an hour with slow representatives, rude customer service reps, and people standing around not willing to take waiting customers. I recommend that you use Enterprise, Hertz, or National over Avis/Budget if you rent a car at Newport News Williamsburg airport. This is my third horrible experience in this location.

I have edited my original review from one star to four. I filled out the survey provided by Avis as part of the online reservation process explaining the above problem. I was very presently suprised to receive a e-mail from Avis stating that a refund would be credited to my card. The refund posted today. I did not consider asking for a refund because I do feel that it was my error not checking the contract and I was covered by the insurance for the duration of the rental. My faith in the company has been restored and I will continue to rent from Avis in the future.
There are two other reviews for this Avis location, where additional insurance was added at the counter. I rented a car using the on-line reservation service, pre paid everything. When I got to the counter after a very long trip I just assumed that the charges were correct and did not take the time to read the entire, very poorly printed hard to read contract. The sales person added a $15.00 a day insurance that I did not need or want without saying anything to me. Because I did initial the optional block, I do not have any way to disput the charge. But I can hopefully help keep others from making the same mistake I did, trusting this Avis location to be honest.
