This cake was ordered for a baby shower which was picked up yesterday for the shower which was today. My friend ordered the cake in-person more than a week ago. When she picked the cake up yesterday, she was told that she had to sign a paper which indicated that she was satisfied with the cake, and she stated that she did not want to sign because she was not satisfied. She was told that she could not take the cake without signing. The cake decorator was not present, and we needed a cake, so my friend signed for the cake but made it clear that she was dissatisfied. The umbrella was not upside down, there was very little decoration - VERY little, and by the time it got home, the umbrella had fallen apart and the icing had been messed up from the box. The cake looked nothing like the picture shown during ordering. I honestly could've made this cake. I wouldn't recommend ever purchasing a specially decorated cake from Scratch Bakery.
I ordered my daughter's birthday cupcakes here last year, a month in advance, and wanted to pick them up 2 hours before her party. When I got there to pick them up, with my copy of the order form and receipt, they'd forgotten to make the order entirely. I had to wait half an hour for them to frost cupcakes that were sitting out for who knows his long, so they could specially frost them like kittens. I paid enough to be remembered, thank you very much. And the cakes themselves were fine enough, but they weren't overly special.
Scratch Bakery is one of the best in this area. I travel all the way from Suffolk, VA just for a piece of lemon cake. Oh the banana pudding is to die for as well.
The Port Warwick Scratch Bakery made our wedding cake last fall and it was perfect!! Becuase of such a great experience, I recently went back to them for my sons ARMY enlistment party cake. They did such an amazing job working with me to get exactly what I wanted in relation to the size and decor of each cake. The result was better than I had anticipated! I am so grateful to the ladies for making each of these special events that much more special. THANK YOU!!!
Their customer service is horrible. I had a certificate on my phone. General rule of thumb for anyplace I've worked at or been to is you don't take the customers phone. Especially without asking. Just because I hold out my phone to you does not invite you to take it from my hand and say, "I have to call my manager about this" and then disappear into the back for 5 whole min. My phone was unlocked and out of my sight. Who know what they could have done. It's my security computer and my life line for my own business. So that is totally unacceptable. Their cupcakes may b some of the best I've had, but it's not worth an $800 phone!
